Nissan Leaf Range
Are you familiar with the Nissan Leaf range? The mileage range is one of the most feared and loved aspects of an electric car. It's one of the most probed prospects, and you will no doubt eventually come across the term "Range Anxiety". This term is coined from the early days when the electric car charging point network was still in its embryonic stage, leaving then-electric car owners in a potentially vulnerable position if they were not able to reach the next charging point before the range of their car runs out. The first incarnations of the Nissan Leaf utilise a 24 kWh battery and promise a range of 84 miles on a single charge. In 2016 a larger battery version was introduced, at 30kWh the range has been increased to over 100 miles on a single charge. In models with the infotainment screen such as the Acenta and the Tekna, detailed energy usage and the remaining range is displayed precisely to allow for accurate planning of the journey ahead.
Nissan Leaf Battery Lease
Although the maintenance costs are significantly lower in an electric car, your primary ongoing cost may be leasing the battery. It's a scheme introduced by Nissan in 2013 as a way to lower the initial cost of the vehicle, so it's more affordable. As the only component in an electric car which experienced mechanical wear as the vehicle ages, the leasing option also acts as a form of warranty on the battery. Any cost of repair or replacement is the responsibility of the manufacturer.
There are options to buy the battery outright, so the entirety of the car belongs to you. Although this raises the initial cost of the vehicle, it removes the mileage restriction of most battery lease contracts, allowing for a large degree of freedom. It also means that there are no ongoing costs apart from any potential finance of the car itself and the cost of electricity to charge the car, which is significantly less than the cost of fuel in an ICE car.
